The Syrian Arab Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany signed the final air transport agreement between the two countries at Tishreen Palace in the capital, Damascus. Representing the Syrian Arab Republic at the signing ceremony was Mr. Samih Arabi, Deputy Head of the Civil Aviation and Air Transport Authority, while the German side was represented by Dr. Giesza Andreas von Geyer, Minister of State at the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The signing of this agreement comes as a culmination of what was achieved under the joint declaration of intent signed by the two countries in Berlin on March 30, 2026. The agreement establishes the legal and regulatory framework for air relations between the two countries and paves the way for the implementation phase, which includes completing operational procedures between the civil aviation authorities of both sides, assigning airlines, organizing air transport rights and frequencies, issuing operating licenses and approvals, and fulfilling the technical and security requirements needed to start flights between the two countries.
